January 24 and 31, 2014 - Corpus Christi Catholic School Schindler's List

Happy Catholic Schools Week!

AS ALWAYS - CHECK OUT OUR COLT EXPRESS AT CCCSCOLTEXPRESS.BLOGSPOT.COM to read what is being shared with our entire community!

Lesson Plans
As we learned about in our PLCs this week, lesson planning and use of lesson plans are one of the most important things a teacher can prepare in planning for good instruction. As we have many second language learners in our room, this is a great link on the importance of lesson planning, especially for these types of learners : 2nd Language Lesson Planning

Next week, we will be checking lesson plans so please make sure you have the following as we will be looking for exemplars to share with other teachers:
  • Title
  • Objective
  • 1-2 standards (no more than this and no numbers - make sure to write out 1 ELA and 1 content area standard if not ELA for each lesson) that you are focusing on with this objective
  • One formal or informal assessment for EVERY lesson
PLEASE BRING: a printed copy of your lesson plans for the"exemplary" wall to your next PLC!

Team Meetings
As a reminder, it is very important that every team meets at least every other week.  Please work together to make sure all members of your team can attend and submit notes to me at the end of each meeting.  We will be using these as part of our AdvanEd reporting.

Allergy Alert
As most of you know, we work under delegation of a registered school nurse here at Corpus Christi.  At our last monthly visit, our nurse has given us direction related to any students who have allergies to such things as peanuts, bee stings, etc. Many students, with these type allergies, already have medications such as epipens and the required medical paperwork here at school in case of such an emergency but we have a few that do not.  A private list of these students is available at all times in our school office and the cafeteria and it is noted whether or not we have meds available.  You as teachers are also informed of these kiddos via your role sheet and any designated flags on www.teacherease.com.

PLEASE NOTE from this point forward:
  • If a student has an allergy and it is noted on the RED ALLERGY sheets in both the cafeteria and the office that we do not have meds for them, PLEASE call 911 immediately if they have an allergic reaction.  We ask that you then call the office and we will then come to you and call parents, per our delegating nurses' direction.
  • If a student has an allergy and it is noted on the RED ALLERGY sheets AND the office has meds for them, PLEASE call the office to get meds THEN call 911 immediately if they have an allergic reaction.  We will then come to you and then call parents, per our delegating nurses' direction.

If your have as student on this list that and we do not have emergency response medications for them, please encourage them to contact Dawn Ambuul or Nichole Munoz to acquire information on how to make this happen.

Uniform Infractions
As we have come back from Christmas break, there have been numerous uniform infractions that are occurring.  Please hold students accountable for wearing the appropriate Corpus Christi Catholic School uniform policy including proper jackets/sweatshirts in the classroom.  It might be advantageous to review the policy as a class so everyone is on the same page.

Reading Street Inventory
As we believe all of our Reading Street and Prentice Hall supplies have arrived, we are asking for you to return the inventory list where you note what you have and what you may be missing.  We will touch base with Pearson to get what you are missing after we receive these inventory sheets.  Please turn these into Dawn ASAP so we can get this completed.

Professional Development
Some teachers have asked about professional development and how they can get their required CDE hours and move up in the Teacher evaluation rubric. I wanted to give you a quick run-down on how this works:
  • Professional Development that we have at school will be accumulated at the end of the year and a certificate for your records will be created. All PLCs and other training where there is a sign in sheet will be added to your yearly certificate.
  • Professional Development is ultimately the responsibility of the teacher.  Opprtunities may be paid for by the school if they are required by administration but as PD is something a teacher can "take with them", the practice across our diocese is that we do not pay DTO or cost of most professional development opportunities that teachers may choose to participate in,
  • As a reminder, D11 will allow us to participate in their FREE Professional Development if they have space!  Please contact Marcia Palmer at 520-2555 to set up an account and then access the D11 Electronic Registrar Online (ERO) to take PD classes.
  • Here is another great article that may help you manage how to get professional development:  "Taking Control of Your Professional Development" - check it out!  http://www.joewoodonline.com/taking_control/
Observation Schedule
After our mid-year evaluations, we will be restructuring our Spot observations schedule. Just as we support our students in different ways, we want to support teachers in the same way. We hope this system will allow for great feedback and help each of you continue to grow.  Therefore,
  • Teachers who were scored completely or mostly in the exemplary area will have a spot observation at least 1 time per month.
  • Teachers who scored in exemplary in most areas but also have some proficient 3 areas can expect to be observed at least 2 times per month.
  • Teachers who scored overall in the proficient 1 or 2 areas or who were hired later in the year, will be observed normally 1 time per week.

-  All Catholic rubric groups must have completed responses for the 4 benchmark areas.
- Each group should be ready to "teach" their standard to the rest of the school on February 7th.  We will be inviting our SAC and the HSA along with Father Mark and Father Joe to join us from 2-4 PM this day to go through the entire Accreditation rubric and the entire Catholicity rubric.  Each team will guide us through how they answered and what evidence they acquired to support their answers.  This will allow us all to speak the same language when asked by the visiting accreditation team about each standard/benchmark.
- TEAM LEADS - please let me and your team know if you will be meeting.  If this is all completed, please feel free to leave for the day!  Side Note:  Standard 5 WILL be meeting! :)

Saturday, February 1Faith, Knowledge and Service:  Celebrating Our SHARED Faith
This evening we will have our annual HSA Spaghetti Dinner and Basket Raffle to celebrate the conclusion of Catholic Schools week here at Corpus Christi Catholic School.   All parishioners, parents, and adult community members will be invited to join us this evening beginning at 6PM with a beautiful dinner, drinks, fun and fellowship! This event has been so well attended in the past, we have grown out of our cafeteria space!   It will be a great time to celebrate the gifts Corpus Christi Catholic School is providing today and has been providing for the last 93 years!
